Yoga Helps Women Find Authenticity in Their Own Treatment

@ Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center Staff
Many things set Timberline Knolls apart from other treatment centers.  The fact that we not only treat eating disorders, but offer integrated treatment for co-occurring trauma, substance abuse and mood disorders is probably the greatest differentiator.  Another important difference is our expressive therapy department.  This program encourages residents to regain a sense of mastery over their healthy selves through experiential activities such as art therapy, dance/movement therapy, equine and canine therapy, recreational therapy, daily fitness, meditation and relaxation.

Yoga is an important component of this program, serving as a complimentary adjunct to the 12-step experience as well as the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approach.

Elective groups are offered twice a week and include hatha yoga, breath work, guided relaxation, meditation, restorative yoga, and affirmation.  Groups are conducted in safe, non-judgmental environments designed to nurture trust and a sense of empowerment and freedom in every resident.  Each group incorporates a process-oriented component to provide an integrative mind-body experience...Read Article

  2. Take along a supportive friend with me; I don’t have to go it alone.
  3. Practice using rational thoughts and mindful eating.
  4. Set some reasonable goals for myself that include realistic expectations.
  5. Pay attention to my feelings and remember to get up from the table and distract myself from desire to binge.
  6. Use boundaries and stay connected to myself
  7. Eat in balance, moderation and avoid skipping meals so I am not already in deprivation mode before I get there... Read Article

Every Woman's Guide to Managing Your Anger

Women juggle the bowling balls of family and finances, children and schedules, church and community, work inside and outside the home.  Within this time-pressured vise, self-care and personal reflection get squeezed out. Over time, each new responsibility, each additional task can feed the flame of anger and resentment.  Injuries and pain of the past weaken the ability to bounce back from frustrating, difficult or stressful situations.  Old wounds, unhealed, break open afresh with present problems.  This pain hurts; when you get hurt, you get angry.
Anger can be an empowering, supercharged emotion shielding a person from the inevitable darts of life.  But like a drug used to cope in the short-term, anger creates an impossible situation long-term.  What do you do when your repertoire of responses grows shorter and shorter, with more and more synonyms for rage?  What do you do when anger is all you think you have left to feel?
Welcome to Every Woman's Guide to Anger.  This book addresses the unique situations and pressures that contribute to anger in women.  Women have unique reasons for their anger; to counter these you need to marshal unique resources to overcome anger and live a life of contentment and peace. The EATING DISORDER TREATMENT PROGRAM at SeaSide Palm Beach specializes in helping individuals who suffer from a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorders, which is when an individual suffers simultaneously from both a psychiatric disorder (like an eating disorder) as well as a substance abuse problem (like alcohol abuse or drug abuse). Most people are very surprised to learn that eating disorders have little to do with food. Especially when one considers that many people who suffer from eating disorders actually have an unhealthy obsession with food. In the majority of cases, eating disorders have more to do with a lack of emotional well-being resulting from their inability to identify and communicate their own needs and wants effectively to others. Workshop II takes this to a higher level, teaching you how to listen to your body, which is constantly changing in response to internal and external cues. Somatic and movement techniques are explored that help you move towards attunement and mastery.
