Eating Disorder Hope
"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do. " - Eleanor Roosevelt
I thought this quote was very inspiring! Do you have a favorite quote? While going through hard times, who was someone that made you feel like you can do it?Who is someone that is helping you overcome it, and move on with your life? Who is someone that is helping you to become the person you want to be? Let that special person know how you feel.

There are so many of my favorite quotes out there that I just don't have one in particular. I know that my journey throughout my eating disorder has definitely made me a much stronger and a better person. I am able to deal with things in life a lot easier. I try not to sweat the small stuff or let myself get too upset over something. It is sometimes easier said than done but through lots of courage and patience I managed to muddle through my challenges (most of them).
The one person who DEFINITELY made a difference in my life was my therapist. She was absolutely wonderful. She gave me my wings to fly and encouraged me to move on in life. She gave me hope and courage when I had none. At first I wasn't too sure because I had exhausted the system as far as treatment centers and/hospitals go. I think her tough love and her telling me it was time to move on helped make all the difference in the world.
I never understood at the time while I was struggling with my eating disorder why she had dismissed me but now, 6 years later, I have realized it was the BEST thing for me. I worked hard through my own recovery and made it. Slowly, but surely. It makes me feel so good inside to know that she is still in the field of eating disorders helping to mend thousands of broken hearts and guide many others through their own journey of continued success.

I forgot to add that one of my FAVORITE quotes is...."Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great ones make you feel that you too, can become great." -- Mark Twain

"Growing up is not the absence of dreaming - it's being able to understand the difference between the ones you can hold and the ones that you've been sold.

-Jewel, Goodbye Alice in Wonderland"

I love Jewel and I love this song. These particular lyrics seem applicable to my eating disorder - probably because it's something I'll always have to keep in check but I have to realize it is something I've been sold. It's not really me, it's not really who I am.
