Free Teleconference - "Family Healing & Communication"…An educational program for families by Timberline Knolls

Date: Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

Time: 8:00PM to 9:15PM CST (9pm Eastern / 6pm Pacific)

Location: Teleconference - Register at http://familyhealing.eventbrite.com

Who Can This Help?

  • Families or friends who desire to support a loved one seeking recovery
  • Anyone battling an addiction or eating disorder who seeks better communication with their loved ones
  • Physicians, therapists and other professionals who work with patients or families suffering with an eating disorder, substance abuse, depression or co-occurring disorders

What Will The Program Discuss?

An eating disorder or substance abuse can leave family members and friends hesitant or fearful about communicating with a loved one who is seeking recovery at a treatment center or rehab facility.

This free program will discuss the importance of concurrent healing and recovery for friends and family. Family healing allows parents, spouses, siblings and others to be a supportive and appropriate source of strength for their loved one throughout the recovery process. The best way families can support their loved ones is by learning how to take care of themselves and engaging in their own process of recovery.

Dr. Dennis and Dr. Selinger are the Medical Director and Family Therapy Coordinator, respectively, at Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center. They are nationally recognized experts in treatment for eating disorders, alcoholism and drug addiction, and vocal advocates for inclusion of family members in the recovery process.

About Dr. Stan Selinger

Dr. Selinger became Family Therapy Coordinator in November 2010, which represented a natural progression for him after nearly five years of continuous contribution to the residents at Timberline Knolls and more than 30 years of experience within the field. In addition to family therapy sessions at TK, he co-developed and co-facilitates the Multi-Family Group program where families learn from each other and discuss significant issues, and are supported by hearing how other families go through the recovery process. He also oversees the Family Dynamic Group where residents learn about issues related to families and how to better relate to their own. Prior to his start at Timberline Knolls, he served as Clinical Director at a cancer support center and also co-directed the successful effort for a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) grant on the Quality of Working Life. As a result of this work, he was asked to serve as a consultant to the 1981 presidential inauguration and to review national health care issues with members of Congress. A New York City native, Dr. Selinger received his doctorate in psychology and master’s degree from Ohio State University. He has presented at many professional conferences around the country and has been published repeatedly in professional journals.
